Matthew Phipps began his professional DJ career 9 years ago, at the young age of nineteen. He began working for San Diego DJ companies Advanced Entertainment and Musically Yours or "My DJ's" throughout San Diego. He started Choice Entertainment 5 years ago and has been a full time DJ in San Diego for the past 7 years. Matt DJ's primarily weddings, private parties and corporate events, with a strong focus in Weddings.
Matt is a life long musician: Guitar, Piano and Vocals. Matt attended Mira Costa College and Cal State San Marcos to study Music Theory and recording arts and has since produced many local bands and artists. He was an intern at Sounden Studio's in San Clemente to improve these skills, and to acquire more knowledge about how to record music.
At the age of 14, Matt began to play regularly in different bands around San Diego and eventually formed several of his own: How's My Driving?, Mayweather and Riddle the Roar.
Matt belongs to ASCAP which is the professional association of songwriters and is credited to several songs for NBC, working with music producer Bobby Summerfield. The songs they recorded together have aired on many shows on NBC and their affiliated networks. Songwriting has always been a passion of Matt's and this knowledge and love for music shows in his professional DJ career.
Matt was nominated for San Diego's A-List "Best DJ in San Diego" in 2010 and 2011. Matt is one of San Diego's most active Wedding DJ's and performs at over 40 Weddings a year. Matt stands out in not only his ability to MC, but also in his mixing ability and diverse knowledge of music. Matt is one of few full time Wedding DJ's in San Diego county that mixes music with turntables at every event.
"I have been very fortunate to be doing what I am doing in San Diego for the past 10 years. I have been shown a lot of appreciation in the way of referrals and personal recommendations and reviews that I am very proud of.
In last couple of years I have been putting a strong focus into turntables and my mixing ability. It is almost overwhelming to me the amount of positive reaction I have had from clients and their guests and other wedding vendors. While I have always been a musician and songwriter, I had never really fully applied these skills until going to the much more hands on approach of using turntables.
I feel that as Wedding DJ's we get so caught up in being reception coordinators and selling our services that we forget about the single most important aspect of being a REAL DJ: Mixing. I now take pride in my mixing ability above all else in an effort to change the stigma in the mobile DJ community of Wedding DJ's not mixing. The reaction has been obvious to me, that people dance more and they appreciate the care and detail I put into every song and every mix.
Please listen to my mixes and see what I mean. It is my goal to offer not only the fundamentals of a successful DJ Business: Customer service, professionalism, lighting and good sound, but talented turntablism."
