I initially met with Grant concerning the wedding details. We vaguely talked about music and a layout that they felt would work for their guests and their venue. The day of came fast, with a lot of details left impromptu and figured out on the spot. It sounds much more difficult than it was, being that the staff at the Brigantine and the wedding coordinator (a friend of the bride's) had done a great at making all of the difficult moments, not so difficult.
The Groom Grant, is from South Africa and there were many family members from South Africa. They had a great sense of humor and were a lot of fun throughout the night. We had a few South African songs as part of the itinerary, including Lady Smith Black Mumbazo as the brides processional (Lady Smith Black Mumbazo is the artist you heard a lot of Paul Simon's "Graceland" album). It seemed to fit like a glove on this warm June evening. Outside on the back area of The Brigantine has lush greenery and it was full of South African guests, it was truly a moment taken right out of a movie and it was an honor to be a part of.
One frightening part of this wedding for me as a DJ was something that I am always reluctant to mention on this blog, but I must admit, it makes such a huge impact on my memory of an event that I have no choice. At the beginning of the event, my main laptop which is best suited for my performance decided to have a video card go out at the beginning, despite me working on it all day at home preparing for the nights "mix". Did this ruin the event, or even cause a hickup in my service to the Bride and Groom? No! I had a backup PC that was completely loaded with music and luckily the special event songs that the bride and groom requested were all on my backup laptops hard drive as well--the rest of the night went off without any surprises.
